What are Butt Enhancements?

Dr. Bray’s butt enhancements, or buttock augmentations, improve the buttocks’ contour, shape, and size. He accomplishes this by fat transfers, skin removal, liposuction, or a combination of all.. Butt enhancement through fat transfer involves transferring fat from one area of the body into the buttocks’ tissues.

Butt enhancements improve the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports the buttock’s fat and skin. Sun damage, aging, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and genetics can contribute to poor tissue elasticity that can cause the buttock sagging.

To have a smoother, more appealing contour, sagging skin and fat are removed. A traditional butt lift will not make your butt larger but may improve the dimpled, irregular skin surface. Butt enhancements are not intended to merely remove excess fat, skin, or add volume to the buttocks. All butt-enhancement techniques Dr. Bray uses are to also reshape the buttocks for a younger, fuller, hourglassed appearance.

The Dr. Bray Difference

Butt enhancements are one of Dr. Bray’s most popular procedures. He has consistently been performing them for over 15 years. As such, he was one of the first in Canada to perform the Brazilian Butt Lift, and works diligently with his patients, and in his clinic, to perfect it. This procedure, involving transfer of a patient’s own fat into the buttock region, is by far the most popular method for buttock enhancement.

Like all of Dr. Bray’s procedures, he looks at the body holistically. When he operates on one part of the body, he takes into account the others. This is what gives his patients a proportionate, healthy appearance. He understands the differences in expectations between a male and female butt enhancement. Thus, he always works to cater the procedure to his patient’s ideal appearance.

While a typical fat extraction is a slash-and-burn process of removing and injecting fat, Dr. Bray insists that where and what is taken out is just as important. Prior to the surgery, Dr. Bray holistically examines the body for strategic liposuction. Using multi-zone liposuction, he removes fat in a balanced proportion. If fat is removed in only one section, the body will look disproportionate. By removing fat from multiple, select areas, he works to create a more youthful and fuller appearance. As a result, Dr. Bray spends as much, or more, time removing fat as he does injecting it.

Although the where of the liposuction is critical, so is the what. After liposuctioning, Dr. Bray uses a closed-system reservoir to purify it, minimize trauma to the delicate fat cells, and reduce potential for contamination. Some loss of the transferred fat is a natural part of the process; 100% survival of the new fat is not possible. However, Dr. Bray’s  patients can expect to keep 50-60% or more of the fat transferred. Surgically, Dr. Bray does everything in his power to ensure the longevity of the fat.

Once Dr. Bray has chosen the best of the fat to inject into the butt, he distributes it to create a long-lasting, full, and symmetrical shape. Since everyone is somewhat asymmetrical, he works to improve as much symmetry as possible when performing the injections. Additionally, by strategically injecting the fat between the existing layers of fat, he is able to optimize blood flow to the new fat cells. This enhanced blood flow allows for healthier, longer-lasting fat cells. Moreover, by injecting it in such a manner, he avoids the dangers of inserting the fat below the muscle.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Butt Enhancement?

Even with an exceptional diet and exercise regimen, it can be difficult or outright impossible to shape the buttock to an intended appearance. A combination of age, genetics, massive weight loss, pregnancy, and sun damage can cause irreversible changes to combat with diet and exercise alone. Sagging skin, sun damage, and stubborn fat spots are particular areas of difficulty that may require surgical intervention.

Candidates should be at their ideal weight before surgery, and not intend to gain or lose significant amounts of weight afterwards. Those with substantial soft tissue looseness in the gluteal area, causing sagging skin are usually good candidates for a formal buttock lift, involving removal of loose skin and literal re-positioning of the buttocks. Those without major sagging, but having an unsatisfactory buttock shape, size, or contour, will usually do well with fat transfer technique, the “Brazilian Butt Lift”. It is important to note that candidates should be in overall good health, free of complicating health issues such as heart disease, hypertension, thyroid problems, or diabetes. If any of these concern you, please ensure Dr. Bray’s office is notified.

What to Expect in the Initial Consultation

Dr. Bray works holistically. Thus, he will examine all aspects of your body to ensure that your goals are met by taking detailed body measurements. If he believes another surgery may be of benefit, he will suggest so. When discussing your surgical goals, Dr. Bray will explain in detail the techniques he uses, procedures beneficial for you, and how he can shape your buttocks to your ideal appearance.

Since safety is of chief concern for Dr. Bray, he will assess your medical records, current medications, lifestyle, and any previous surgeries that may complicate the process. Potential risks and complications will be discussed, along with photographs taken for your medical records.

What is the Cost of a Butt Enhancement?

Because butt enhancements are a highly individualized procedure. Depending on your body, it may involve a range of liposuction, skin removal, lifting, potential fat transfers and implants. Therefore, naming a set price is very difficult to do. It is best to schedule a consultation with Dr. Bray to find out what fit is best for you.

What Questions Should I Ask Dr. Bray?

It is important to ask questions about the procedure you are undergoing to ensure you are comfortable and well-informed. Although Dr. Bray will likely already have answered many of your questions, here is a checklist of questions to use as a guide during your consultation with Dr. Bray.

  • What will be needed of me to get the best results out of my procedure?
  • Where and how will the surgery be performed?
  • What surgical approach do you recommend for me?
  • How long is the recovery period?
  • What are the complications and risks associated with my surgery?
  • What results can I expect from my surgery?
  • Do you have before-and-after photos from others of this procedure?

What Are The Risks of a Butt Enhancement?

Dr. Bray will explain the complications and risks associated with your surgery during your consultation. These include:

    • Asymmetries
    • Anesthesia risks
    • Deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary and cardiac complications
    • Bleeding (hematoma)
    • Fluid accumulation
    • Fat necrosis
    • Infection
    • Pain, which may persist
    • Numbness or other changes in skin sensation
    • Recurrent looseness of skin
    • Poor wound healing
    • Possible need for revisionary surgery
    • Skin discoloration or prolonged swelling

What to Expect After Butt Enhancement Surgery

Once your surgery is completed and the wounds are sutured, you will be moved to a recovery area to be monitored. Butt enhancement surgery can be either an outpatient procedure, or require an overnight stay. Either way, you will need to arrange another driver to bring you home.

Dr. Bray is very involved in the post-operative care process, and will schedule follow-up appointments frequently during the first few weeks. During these meetings, he will assess the healing, and assess your comfort. Immediately after surgery, he will provide you with a pain medication prescription, as well as a support garment to be worn. The support garment reduces swelling and aids in the healing process. As such, it should be worn all day and night.

It is crucial that patients avoid buttock pressure, most commonly through sitting or laying on the back, for prolonged periods during the first few weeks. Sitting increases the pressure on delicate, new fat and can compromise its survival. Patients should instead lay on their sides or stomach. If sitting for lengthy periods is inevitable, Dr. Bray will provide a special post-operative seat cushion. Although sitting should be avoided, standing and walking carries little to no risk.

It is also important to learn how to care for your wounds during the healing process. Dr. Bray will ensure you understand how to take your medications, specific concerns to look for, and how to take care of the incision sites.
