Toronto Body Contouring by Dr. Bray
What is Body Contouring?
Body contouring is a term that describes a customized approach with multiple procedures working together to achieve an individual’s body goals. Available to both men and women, Dr. Bray employs a variety of techniques to achieve optimal results on a case by case basis. These procedures can help tighten skin, remove excess fat, and shape the body into more appealing contours and proportions.
When men seek body contouring surgery, they are typically looking for a v-shaped, athletic physique. Although the same liposuction and lift procedures are performed on both genders, the technique and the result is very different. Please visit the male liposuction page by clicking here to learn more about male body contouring.
Many of these procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, with patients safely able to return home on the day of surgery. For major surgical body contouring, however, general anesthesia and overnight stays are usually required. After the first twenty-three hours, patients are able to return to the comfort of their home.

BRAY'S TECHNIQUES
Liposuction Procedures
Dr. Bray routinely makes use of several liposuction technologies in order to remove pockets of excess fat and enhance the contours of the body. He often uses multiple techniques with the same patient, depending on the nature of the body area and quantity of fat requiring removal.
Radio-Frequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL)
Dr. Bray uses different forms of RFAL liposuctions, but they all use heat to liquify, then extract the fat. The RFAL technologies Dr. Bray uses are BodyTITE™, NeckTITE™ and FaceTITE™. He makes a small incision, followed by inserting a radiofrequency electrode to heat and liquify the fat cells. RFAL eliminates fat cells without the risk of harming vital tissue. Once accomplished, he removes the fat via the cannula (a thin, hollow tube). Fortunately for the patient, this procedure also stimulates collagen in the skin, tightening and toning the area.
Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL)
Where RFAL heats the fat cells to liquify then remove them, power-assisted liposuction sends vibrations through the cannula (thin, hollow tube) to break up stubborn fat tissues. Similar to the other liposuction procedures, this procedure allows for relatively quick healing, and utmost safety. The small incision area, combined with the vibrations allows for less scarring, and less force from Dr. Bray.
SAFELipo™
This procedure is very similar to PAL, but with an added step. Dr. Bray’s goal is always to make his patients look as youthful and natural as possible. By using SAFELipo™, the added step allows him to even out fat distribution. The goal of this is to reduce or completely remove fat creases, ripples, or misshapen areas left by uneven fat cells
Tumescent Liposuction
Dr. Bray uses this form of liposuction prior to the others for important practical and safety reasons. He injects large amounts of saline fluid into the body to disperse the fat cells, making it easier to remove them. In the same procedure, local anaesthetic and epinephrine shrink the capillaries and reduce bleeding.
A Focus on Shape and Proportion
Dr. Bray’s philosophy is to consider the body holistically to achieve the most natural result. He identifies the combination of procedures that will provide optimal results with minimal risk. During the consultation, Dr. Bray will discern the best set of liposuction and contouring procedures to achieve your goals, all while guiding you through the process
Supporting Procedures
Though most body contouring procedures will include surgical treatment, Dr. Bray will identify supporting procedures that enhance your journey towards your goal. He has extensive experience in liposuction, nonsurgical, and other surgical procedures. This allows him to identify where nonsurgical procedures may be used to better achieve the optimal final outcome.
AREAS OF THE BODY
Jawline and Neck
Jawline and Neck contouring are popular procedures, regardless of age and gender. When collagen production slows, the skin loses its structural support. Thus, the delicate skin of the neck is often the first to show signs of aging. That is why many patients become anxious about the appearance of their necks long before their face. Although sagging skin is less common in younger patients, they carry their own cosmetic difficulties. Localized fat deposits around the chin and jawline tend to be the most common complaint. Neck and jawline contouring can be achieved with liposuction, nonsurgical, or other surgical means – but all may help patients realize their ideal facial structure.
The Arms, Back and Bra Line
The bra line back lift, also known as a back lift or upper back lift, is a body contouring procedure that targets a specific region of the mid and upper back to create a more attractive and youthful appearance. Dr. Bray employs liposuction and lift techniques to remove loose, sagging skin and fatty skin rolls that have developed in this back area. This is usually required as a result of weight loss of 100 pounds or more. Most often, the problem is accumulation of stubborn bulges of fat. Dr. Bray relies on the latest technology and his experience with thousands of patients for seeking liposuction and lift procedures. He performs strategic liposuction and contouring with incisions and processes that leave scars near-invisible or often concealable.

The Abdomen, Flanks, and Love Handles
Many women who experience childbirth have liposuction and contouring performed on these areas; however, it is common for other women to undergo this procedure as well. Dr. Bray can liposuction fair amounts of fat from these areas, or simply contour the body part. By contouring the abdomen, Dr. Bray can create a slimmer physique. Depending on your body type, he will liposuction and contour your lower midsection in a way that is consistent with the rest of your body. For example, if your physique is curvy or plus-sized, a sculpted abdomen may not be suitable. Dr. Bray will advise which is most appropriate for your body.
This is one of the most important areas for liposuction in both men and women. Love handles can remain a stubborn, prominent area even in those who maintain an ideal weight and level of fitness. Reduction of the love handles and flanks can help improve body contour in many ways. It develops proportions between the midsection and legs, known as the “muffin top.” When body contouring, Dr. Bray often combines strategic liposuction to reduce “hip-dips,” that may appear unappealing to the person. Depending on your sex, Dr. Bray enhances the hourglass shape, or a sculpted, v-shaped torso. This form of liposuction highlights the upper buttock contour by removing the fat that camouflages it.

Inner and Outer Thighs
The most resistant fat cells in the body are controlled by hormones. You can’t easily lunge or squat away your thigh fat because spot reduction workouts don’t exist. This is why inner and outer thigh fat “saddle bags” are infamously resistant to diet and exercise in many women. Dr. Bray’s treatment allows you to target excess fat in specific places, such as the thighs. Dr. Bray can often liposuction stubborn fat without invasive surgery or a long recovery time.

Calves, Lower Legs, and Ankles
Liposuction of the calf or ankle is rarely performed on its own. To achieve the most appealing results, Dr. Bray usually shapes the entire lower leg. Doing so can help to keep the proportion of the lower legs in aesthetically pleasing shape. Dr. Bray may also propose thigh and knee liposuction to give the lower body a more natural, proportional appearance. Like all procedures, Dr. Bray places emphasis on proportions to maintain a natural, hourglass physique.

FAQ
What is the difference between body contouring and weight loss?
Weight-loss and body contouring both have the same goal of removing fat from the body. Body contouring is a surgical solution to provide the extra help to reduce stubborn fat areas and improve the subtleties of the body.
Will I need to continue getting body contouring after my surgery?
Usually not. While the surgical effects of body contouring are powerful, there are many factors that can affect longevity of the results:
- Age
- Genetic factors
- Weight fluctuations
- Pregnancy
- Health problems and illnesses
- Certain prescription medications
- Activity level and exercise
- Diet and nutrition
Changes in the body over time are natural and to be expected. Minor changes can often be improved or maintained with the many non-surgical options available. Occasionally a recurrence of excess fat or loose skin can warrant a surgical revision but is usually less significant than your original surgical procedure.
