What is Breast Augmentation With Fat?
A breast augmentation with fat transfer is a natural alternative to breast implant surgery. It involves removing fat from other parts of a woman’s body through liposuction. Dr. Bray liposuctions pockets of unwanted fatty areas to make a proportional appearance, usually the love handles. This also gives him more cells to work with. Since Dr. Bray works holistically, size, shape, and asymmetry are addressed during the procedure. His goal is to create a youthful, proportional, and hourglass physique.
Unlike an implant, fat is partially absorbed into the body; therefore, the patient will lose up to 50% of their augmented size. As such, this procedure is best for women looking for a modest increase in size (such as half a cup) or to improve the breast shape due to deflation. The results are natural-looking, soft breasts; however, the size is limited by the patient’s fat content. Since a patient is unable to receive fat from someone else, they are limited by their own. For this reason, liposuction is required. Because the patient uses fat instead of an implant, there are less complications and virtually no scarring. Their fat is not a foreign object, so post-implant pain is nonexistent, and the fat won’t break or migrate.
What You Should Know About Breast Augmentations with Fat
Who are the best candidates for breast augmentation with fat?
The best candidates for breast augmentations with fat transfer want a moderate increase in breast size without implants. Candidates should have some unwanted pockets of fat in areas on the abdomen, hips, or thighs. Oftentimes, the best spots are the love handles. It is important to note that Dr. Bray does not give full body contouring and shaping with this procedure. He liposuctions only enough for the breasts. Since Dr. Bray always examines the body holistically, he may suggest other areas for improvement to combine with the fat transfer.
Fat transfers are gaining popularity in recent years as safer and natural alternatives to implants. Unlike implants, fat is not a foreign object, so the body will not attack it. Although it is a safer alternative, there are certain criteria a patient should meet. Patients looking for a modest increase in size are excellent fits for fat transfers. Those looking for a dramatic increase in size should consider an implant instead. This is because an implant’s size is predictable; 50% of the fat, on the other hand, is metabolized by the body. On the same note, the patient’s breasts should not be overly saggy due to transferred fat being less of a dramatic change. Women in their 40s, or have experienced child-birth whose breasts require marginal enhancements are also very suitable candidates. Breast augmentation with fat transfer offers a subtle transformation and improvement. Therefore, the best candidates already have good skin elasticity, shape, and minimal asymmetries.
What is the cost of a breast augmentation with fat transfer?
Pinning down an exact cost is tricky, because it depends where the fat is being transferred from, how much fat, and if the patient requires any additional treatments. If a patient needs liposuction from multiple areas because of a lesser but even distribution of fat on the body, the price will be greater because of the increased complexity. If a patient has a targeted fat pocket, the price will be lesser.
Dr. Bray will always suggest other treatments for improvement if he believes the patient may benefit from it. As such, if the patient decides to add additional treatments, the cost will increase.
It is best to schedule a consultation with Dr. Bray to find a more accurate price range of your procedure.
How long will a breast augmentation with fat transfer last?
Breast augmentation with a fat transfer will change the look and feel of your breasts as well as the parts of your body where fat has been collected. Although approximately 50% of the injected fat is absorbed by the body within the first 3 months, the rest will be retained so long as there are no substantial weight fluctuations. It is best to undergo fat transfers when you are within at least 10 pounds of your ideal goal weight.
Where are sutures placed for Breast Augmentation with Fat?
In order for Dr. Bray to create as natural-looking a physique as possible, he strategically places the incision in places that are concealable. This is in conjunction with sutures that are placed beneath the thickest folds of the skin that are later removed. These suture placements improve the healing process of the wound. The actual incision is located in the armpit, crease, or fold, leaving it virtually invisible.
What are the benefits of a breast augmentation with fat transfer?
Fat transfers are very beneficial for those looking for modest, soft, permanent, and natural-looking results. Unlike implants, fat transfers do not involve invasive, foreign materials, meaning your body will not attack the augmentation, causing problems like capsular contracture. Secondly, fat transfers are permanent once the initial integration has taken place. Even though 50% of the fat is expected to be lost within the first 3 months, the remaining fat will be retained. With implants, they must be replaced eventually. Lastly, although the size options for fat transfers are more limited, the result is a softer, more natural-looking augmentation.
The Dr. Bray Difference
Dr. Bray has been practicing liposuction and breast augmentations with fat for over 20 years. His experience has taught him an understanding of how to create a proportional, balanced body. To do so, he ensures only the highest quality of fat is injected, and the most problematic areas lessened. Using multiple techniques and tools, such as BodyTITE™ to effectively liposuction. When injecting the fat, he uses it as a shaping tool to help contour the breast. But rather than merely using fat or implants on their own, he also mixes the two if need be. Although this is not offered by every surgeon because of its complexity, Dr. Bray’s standard is a natural-looking physique. As such, he uses the various techniques and tools built over his 20 years. While creating a natural-looking physique, he also places safety as the highest concern. For instance, Dr. Bray is not willing to add as much fat as possible; otherwise, pressure can build under the skin, causing capillaries to restrict blood flow. His safety precautions are not only for his patients’ safety, but also the longevity of the outcome.
Preparing for Breast Augmentation with Fat

Medical conditions, such as heart disease, hypertension, thyroid problems, diabetes or the regular use of certain medications might affect your surgery. If any of this applies to you, please consult with Dr. Bray first.

No smoking of any sort of nicotine, vape or marijuana products for approximately 6 weeks before your procedure. Continuing to do so might adversely affect your surgical outcome. We also advise not consuming alcohol at least a week prior to surgery.

Follow Dr. Bray’s instructions concerning diet, hygiene and medications. Before any kind of surgery, your stomach should be empty, which is why you should not eat or drink after midnight the day before the procedure.

Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to allow easier change of clothes before and after surgery. Please arrive without any jewelry, makeup and nail polish on the day of the procedure. If you wear contact lenses, please switch them out for glasses.

Plan enough time for your recovery. Taking a few days off from work will be essential. Patients usually require between 3 and 7 recovery days before returning to office-type work. Those with physically-demanding jobs will require more time, typically 2-3 weeks.

Ask someone to drive you to your appointment and pick you up after surgery. By law, you cannot drive after your surgical operations, thus you will need to arrange a ride home.
COVID-19 testing
In line with COVID-19 regulations, we have reassessed our cleaning and sterilization protocols. Upon arrival in our office we conduct symptom screenings with a questionnaire and check our patients’ temperature. We also require mask wearing for our staff and patients. COVID-19 testing before surgical procedures is mandatory in order to protect our staff. Please inform yourself regarding testing centers in your area and arrange for testing prior to your surgery.
Blood work
We require a number of lab tests, diagnostic tests and medical evaluations leading up to your surgery. The nature of these tests will vary according to the procedure, your age, health, history, and other key health factors. Make sure to run all the necessary blood work and receive clearance before any surgical procedure. Necessary testing may change based on procedure, age, health, history and other factors.
Two weeks before surgery
It’s of utmost importance to follow all of your surgeon’s instructions regarding diet, supplements and medications. Stop drinking alcohol and smoking of any kind. Avoid exposure to sick people and quit taking blood thinning medications, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen and a number of supplements. Post-surgery preparations should be made, such as arranging transportation, getting time off from work, stocking up on food and anything else you will need post-surgery and making sure someone will stay with you during the first two days after the procedure.
Day before surgery
Figure out what you are going to wear, follow your surgeon’s instructions regarding pre-surgery fasting and any other preparation measures. Go to bed early and get well rested before your big day. We also recommend getting your house in order and buying ice packs to help with swelling after the surgery.
Recovery for Breast Augmentation with Fat
Recovery after the surgery depends on various factors including previous exercise regimen, diet, and overall health. One of the most important factors, however, is how committed a patient is to Dr. Bray’s instructions. Dr. Bray is very involved in the post-operative care process. Patients will meet him regularly to discuss healing processes, check for complications, and remove sutures. Typically, patients can expect 6 weeks to heal.
After waking up from anaesthesia, grogginess and soreness is expected. The first three days are generally the most uncomfortable; however, Dr. Bray will prescribe pain medication for the three days. Refraining from strenuous exercise is crucial, however, light exercise like walking can be done almost immediately. Compression garments are essential, reducing swelling to the breasts. If at any point the pain is unbearable, patients should contact Dr. Bray immediately.
